Master Studentship/Research Assistant, Dept. of Computer System & Technology, Faculty of Computer

A few research studentships (Master) through project work funded by MOSTI (Ministry of Science,

Technology and Innovation), Malaysia and Internal Grant by University of Malaya are available at the

above mentioned department. The project research areas available are:

1. SPAM inline filter in FPGA co

processor (2 position)

2. Jawi Character recognition/image processing FPGA co

‐

processor (4 position)

3. Transport related application (parking system/ambulance guidance system/robotic navigation)

using GPS & shortest path algorithm FPGA co

‐

processor (3 position)

4. Encryption algorithm implementation for biometric application (1 position)

5. Bioinformatic application implementation in FPGA co

‐

processor (1 position)

6. Interactive & Intelligent Jawi application based on JQAF curriculum (2 position)

7. Intrusion Detection System for Wireless Sensor Network / Medical application using WSN

technology (2 position)

Candidate should possess a necessary qualification (Degree) for the respective project title that they

choose preferable in the field of either Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering/Computer

Science/Information Technology/Multimedia

Programming/Bioinformatic/Robotic/Mechatronic/

Artificial Intelligence/Networking/Software Engineering/Information Security.

•

Strong understanding of digital logic /digital circuit will be useful for title 1‐

5. Experience in

hardware programming (VHDL/Verilog) would also help to jumpstart most of the project.

•

Knowledge in microprocessor programming & circuit design would be useful for title 3 & 7

•

Knowledge in Matlab programming/image processing would be useful for title 2

•

Knowledge in network security would be useful for title 1,4 & 7

•

Knowledge in Web programming/Mobile programming/Software development with interactive

element would be useful for title 6

•

Knowledge in bioinformatics would be useful for title 5.

•

Knowledge in SCADA development would be useful for title 3 & 7

Stipend is currently around RM1800 per month for 12/18 months from the start of their work. Selection

will be based on the first come first serve basis. All full time research assistance will be eligible to apply

for Graduate Research Assistantship Scheme offered by IPS/ UM for Master fee exemption. We expect

most of the project to start in Oct 2007. WE EXPECT THE RESEARCH ASSISTANT TO ENROLL FOR MASTER

BY RESEARCH USING THE PROJECT AREA AS THEIR RESEARCH TITLE (ESTIMATED DURATION: 12 MTH).
